I didn't realize how stressed I was working at 911. I really liked my job, but as things would turn out, I was really stressed.
My salon life is very different. I've had people walk out not loving what I did to their hair, but it doesn't stress me out.
The other day I spent 6.5 hours with a 16 year old girl who'd taken color into her own hands. In between her color correction, I did 4 other clients which had color, wax, 3 cuts and 1 style. While I felt bad that the girl had to spend most of her day at the salon, she's the one that turned her hair an ugly black color and wanted me to fix it.
Yesterday the owner of our salon asked me how the color turned out. I told her that the final product was pretty, however it took 6.5 hours and more steps than I'd anticipated to complete the project. The salon owner said "Wow! I bet that stressed you out, right?" I said "No, not at all. Hair clients don't create stress for me. Stress is when someone is yelling on the phone that they're being beat up by someone they thought loved them and needed help 5 minutes ago. Stress is when someone wrecked their car and their friend is trapped in the car. Sending a fire department in the opposite direction of the fire (which I once did) - that's stress. Hair? Hair isn't stress."
She smiled.
Ahhhhh prospective. Such a beautiful thing.

It must be a gift because my stinkin hair stresses me out every single day!
Indeed, but some people would think that those two jobs are very similar! haha. Wow. You answered 911 calls? And you do hair? And WAX?
yeah, i'd have to say perspective is a beautiful thing. glad you are able to use the experiences you've had to become even wiser to it!
and for the record that girl who colored her own hair and messed it up...was NOT ME! :0)
Glad you have a clear prospective on life. I agree!
However, my hair does tend to stress me out. It NEVER does what I want it to do, darn it!
It really puts things into perspective.
Smiles.
I'm glad that you are living a less stressed life right now.
Enjoy it ... your daughter will be a teenager eventually.
So glad to hear that you are enjoying your new job!
I think it is great that you are doing something you love - and it doesn't stress you out!
I love the new pics of your kiddos on the sidebar...guess I haven't been by for a while. Hope all is well....oh, and take your pill for goodness sake! :D
"I've had people walk out not loving what I did to their hair..."
I doubt that.
I'm so glad you're enjoying your new career.
Yeah, I was one of the people that got a color and cut and wax in the middle of that girl's color correction. I wish I would have seen the end result on the girl...
BUMMER...
So glad you enjoy your job!
I wish I could say that my job was STRESS FREE. HA!!
:)
I am glad that you found a job that doesn't stress you out. That is a good thing!!
Wow - I can't imagine spending 6.5 hours at a salon.
If that is stress my husband and I stressed out the Canton dispatcher Monday nite. And of course us. We gave them a call of a 16mos old having a siezure and not breathing. Mom (that would be me) was giving the little girl breaths and trying to make her cry. Dad(my husband) was driving 109 down the interstate. I can now relate to that kind of stress and I would see how a dispatcher would be stressed.

Sorry I messed up my link some how. I thought if you wanted to read my stress post this is the right link to my blog
Thank you for helping me get some perspective on things! For example, I tend to think my mornings are very stressful (trying to get 2 kids out the door by 7:45 AM...), but I really need to quit "sweating the small stuff"!
Yours was just the first reminder of that I got today:
I had to go to the dentist for a checkup this morning (first one in 4 years - gulp...), and I was really stressing out about how I don't like having my teeth cleaned and that I MIGHT have a cavity.
While waiting in the lobby I heard that one guy needed to have two teeth extracted because of decay; another guy needed an emergency root canal; and to top it all off I listened to a pair of women discussing their individual battles with cancer - one with 2 years to live.
Yep, things could be a LOT more stressful. Thanks for being part of helping me learn that lesson today!
By the way, is anyone else wondering what Tracy had waxed?? Ha! :-D
Great perspective Kerrie!
Being a dispatcher would totally stress me out too. I don't do well with drama.
So glad you are in a more enjoyable environment.
MY EYES CARI...MY EYES!!
