The big meeting

Ok, so before I start, I want to point out that I'm pissed. I also blocked comments because I don't want any. I don't want to hear you say 'it will be ok' and 'everything will work out'. I know both of these things to be true, however, for right now I'm pissed.

I allowed myself to think that Jack was 'better' than he actually was. I allowed myself to accept comments from people like 'see, he's doing this' or 'well he's not doing that anymore'.

Here is how to read the scores below. Scores between 85 and 115 are considered to be in the average range. Scores falling below 77 are considered significant for educational planning purposes and may indicate a need for early intervention services.

Adaptive: Standard Score - 100

  • Self-Care: Age Equivalent - 8 months
Personal-Social: Standard Score - 70

  • Adult Interaction: Age Equivalent - 1 month
  • Self-Concept and Social Role: Age Equivalent - 0 months
Communication: Standard Score - 67

  • Receptive: Age Equivalent - 3 months
  • Expressive: Age Equivalent - 2 months
Motor: Standard Score - 59

  • Gross Motor: Age Equivalent - 4 months
  • Fine Motor: Age Equivalent - 0 months
Cognitive: Standard Score - 61

  • Attention and Memory: Age Equivalent - 3 months
  • Perception and Concepts: Age Equivalent - 0 months

Here is his list of weaknesses:
(What is written in this color is what I think about this weakness)

  • Feeding himself bite-sized pieces of food (He's started to do this more. The strange thing is that more often than not, he puts his head down to the food, and not the food up to his mouth.)

  • Drinks from a cup with assistance (Not even close to doing this one)

  • Shows a desire to be picked up for held by familiar people (Normally babies will put their hands out so that you'll pick them up. Jack doesn't do this.)

  • Explores adult facial features (He only does this when he's tired.)

  • Expresses emotions (He does this and I'm not sure why this is on here.)

  • Shows awareness of his hands and feet (He is very aware of his feet. He's aware of his hands for the most part too. It's just strange when he's trying to feed himself is all.)

  • Responds to his name (He does this now, but wouldn't during the eval.)

  • Babbles

  • Repeats one or more single-Syllable consonant-vowel sounds in close succession

  • Brings hands together at the midline (He does this if offered a toy, but not on his own.)

  • Moves his arms when a toy is in sight (He doesn't do it for a toy, but he does it for people.)

  • Rolls over (He does this now too.)

  • Intentionally secures a nearby object while on his stomach (He's got to really want it to go and get it. He doesn't do this very much.)

  • Sits without assistance for at least 5 seconds

  • Retrieves a small object

  • Transfers an object from one hand to the other (He sometimes does this.)

  • Attends to a game of peekaboo (He laughs, but doesn't play along.)

  • Feels and explores objects (He doesn't feel them. They usually go directly to his mouth.)

  • Physically explores or investigates his surroundings

Here is a list of his strengths:

  • Sucks with smooth, coordinated movements while drinking and holding his bottle

  • Eats semisolid food when it's placed in his mouth

  • Looks at adults face

  • Responds physically when held

  • Shows awareness of other people

  • Smiles or vocalizes in response to adult attention

  • Enjoys frolic play

  • Responds to a voice outside his field of vision

  • Attends to someone speaking to him

  • Maintains an upright posture at adults shoulder without assistance

  • Lifts and turns his head from side to side while lying on his stomach

  • Holds and puts an object into his mouth

  • Turns his eyes toward light

  • Responds to physical contact and tactile stimulation

  • Visually explores the environment

So, where do we go from here, right? He'll have therapy once a week for a while. They offered it to me twice a month, but I'm not comfortable with that due to his 'scores'. I don't want to be missing anything. I want to make sure that the left side of his body is getting stronger. They will call to set something up starting next week or the following week. He will have OT, PT and Speech. They'll either come to our house or they will go to Pam's house - depending on how well our schedules fit with one another.

I didn't block the comments because I don't appreciate what you have to say, I just need time to be mad. Tomorrow is a new day - it will be a better today. But for today? Well, today sucks.
