Happy Birthday Shannon!

I posted this picture of me and my sister last year for her birthday. I couldn't resit doing it again this year. I love this photo of us. I'm still wondering who cut my sisters bangs though.

Growing up, my sister and I were as opposite as night and day. She was always my older sister. I know that probably sounds stupid, but she was older and she for sure played the roll.

One of my mom's favorite stories to tell is about when we were little and we were outside at my grandparents farm. We were laying on a blanket and Shannon would say, "There is an airplane Kerrie Anne, can you say airplane? There is Papa John's pick up Kerrie Anne, can you say pick up? There's some cows Kerrie Anne, can you say cow?" I was much to young to say anything, but that didn't keep Shannon from being the big sister and showing me the ropes.

I don't think I'll ever forget my 5th grade year at school. Shannon is 2 years older than I am, so 5th grade was the first year that she and I went to different schools. Not only was she starting Jr. High, but I was starting a new school that neither of us had ever been to. She'd always been my go-to person; the person that showed me the ropes. Now I was alone and scared. Of coarse, everything turned out ok, but it's something that I'll never forget.

Then came the day when I was in 7th grade. Seventh grade in TX was much different than seventh grade here in SD. Here we have middle school; there we had Jr. High. It was a big difference. By the time I was in 7th, Shannon was in 9th which is your last year of Jr. High. She already had friends and was established. I was just a tadpole in a large pond. As the year went on, Shannon and her friends took me under their wings. I'm not sure they wanted to do it, but they did. I'm SO glad I didn't have to go through that alone.

Growing up, she and I didn't get along all that great. Opposites don't always attract. It wasn't until we went our separate ways that we decided that the other wasn't that bad. Now she has her own family and I have mine. Our friendship is one of girlfriends and from time to time, sisters. No matter how many times I've said that I'm going to disown her, I'd be lost with out her.

I know you'll read this, so I'll type this directly to you. Happy Birthday! Chance made us Sisters, hearts made us friends. I hope you have a wonderful day today. I love you.

I love you too..more than you know and way more than I tell you. You're my best friend through thick and thin and I'm a better person for it. I know you don't always agree with my decisions, but no matter what your opinion is you're always there for me when I reailze the decisions that were made were bad ones. Never saying "I told you so", but always with a shoulder to cry on and an ear to "chew".

I love you and I'm so lucky to have you for my sister.

Happy Birthday Shannon!! Great post Kerrie. It almost brought tears to my eyes. I have never had a sister so I have no idea what life would be like growing up with one. You two are wonderful people, mothers, sisters, friends and I am glad to know BOTH of you!! (I am sure I left something out but you get my drift)
