Last Thursday night Justin was in MN. He had to drive 4 hours to sit in court for probably less than an hour. So, when Daddy's away, the kids play. Normally we try to remain on a schedule when Justin is here. I try to have supper around 6, then baths, play, snack, bed. Not this day. I picked the kids up and took them to the park to play.
Now that school started, Nathan goes to Tracy's after school until I get the other two kids from Pam's. Nathan is SUPER excited about this arrangement. He LOVES going to Tracy's after school. It's a huge treat to him.
As you may know, Tracy is my backup daycare. Last Friday the kids were at her house all day. As you could imagine, this was a highly anticipated event. We counted sleeps as we do with anything that's fun. Thursday night I asked Nathan if he wanted to sleep in my bed with me. Lets just be honest here. I sleep better with Nathan in my bed when Justin isn't home. I don't know why, I just do. Nathan LOVES sleeping in our bed when one of us isn't home. Claire, on the other hand, doesn't. I put her in bed with me once and she looked at me like I was crazy. She lasted a half hour.
I was super tired on this particular Thursday night. Nathan likes to talk. I have no idea where he gets it. (smirk) I told him that he could sleep with me, but the rules were no talking when I say it's time to sleep.
The warning came.
Silence.
(Whisper)
Nathan: Mommy, I love to sleep with you because you have the mostest comfortable bed in the house. I'm going to sleep now. Good-night.
He and I both slept great. Most days he's up around 7ish, but not when he's sleeping in the mostest comfortable bed in the house.
I woke him up at 7:30. As happy as he was to be going to one of his favorite places to be, it meant leaving the mostest happiest place.
The place where you feel the most secure.
The place where you can feel the love.
As a child - for me it was the same - my mothers bed.....
which was always......
The mostest comfortable bed in the house.

I can't wait for the day when Vanessa is old enough to lay in bed with me and just fall asleep! Ahh....
What a great story! I love it! Thanks for sharing it!
We have a mover and a groover, so I don't think he will be sleeping with us in his lifetime! Ha!
As you know Dawson would PREFER our bed to his. Maybe that was because he slept with us for most of his life. But when Mark is gone he continues to sleep with me. Caymen on the other hand...prefers her crib. Which is okay. At least one enjoys our mostest comfortable bed!!
P.S. We truly enjoy having the kids here at daycare as well! :)
Marissa never sleeps with us. She never did when she was a baby and she still doesn't. She has come to our bed at 6 o'clock in the moring and crawled up and rested for another hour or so but I can count on my fingers on one hand the times that has happened.
I love Nathan's comment to you...that is so sweet!!
I'm so opposite. When Trevor is away I want the WHOLE bed to myself. How am I suppose to stay up and watch CSI til midnight if I have two little squirts in my bed?
I'm with you...when Corey is gone we have a Slumber Party in ourroom!
Often times I get, "Dad is gone? YES! I'm sleeping with you tonight!"
I just absolutely loved this post, Kerrie. It is nice having the little ones sleep with us. I dread the day Alex wants nothing to do with mom and dad.
I'm like Amy - I want the bed to myself! I sleep right in the middle - and T does the same thing if I'm gone!!
The only time the kids hop in our bed is during a thunderstorm - but the dog is always on our bed - does that count? Since I'm so short, he sleeps at the end of my side and I don't even know he's there - unless is moves because he's dreaming he's chasing something!! :)
How is Jack doing? It looks like Colin might have an upper tooth pop soon - NOOOOOO, I'm not ready for him to grow up!
If only Alec felt that way about my bed and naps...I've tried and tried somedays, so I don't have to fight him to nap in the crib, but he hates naps in my bed, too. Crazy kid!
I love that story! I too always let one child in if Brit is gone...more so I can sleep...hehehe! It is a great feeling to snuggle with one of your kids though!!
Whew - I was woried when I read the title ;)
Alex is a crazy sleeper - takes up the entire bed so we just can't mesh when it comes to this.
i couldn't agree more.
My daughter is like yours, she HATES my bed!!
That is very sweet. My mom wouldn't let me sleep in her bed. She was a bully.
