Update on Jack-Wednesday

Justin called this morning and I just got off the phone with Kerrie (before the doctor came in) so this is what is happening this morning with Baby Jack. A doctor came in last night around 11pm to confirm that Jack has Para Influenza. This illness mimics other respiratory illnesses and right now his is mimicking RSV. So they have Jack on an antibiotic, Zithromax, and giving him neb treatments every 6 hours...although Kerrie says they don't seem to be working. Jack is still on oxygen (nasal canula) and they have tried to wean him off but he cannot maintain a safe level. Kerrie says as soon as he gets better (illness wise) he should be able to maintain his oxygen level on his own without any problem. Dr. Henry came in this morning and beings Jack is still on his oxygen so he said they won't be going home today. Kerrie is hoping for tomorrow.

Kerrie also asked Dr. Henry about eating dairy. He said to continue the NO DAIRY diet until Jack gets better-since he is sick it is hard to tell if he would benefit from her change in diet or not.

This morning they did the sweat test (cystic fibrosis) and took 1/2 the blood they need for allergy testing. Apparently a lot of blood is needed to do allergy testing so they took 1/2 now and will do 1/2 later. They will see a pulmonologist later today but Kerrie wasn't real sure what they would be doing. I asked about the reflux scan that was scheduled to be done again today and she didn't get a chance to answer me because the doctor came in.

She sounds extremely tired but seems to be doing okay. She said there isn't a lot of down time as there are constantly nurses and doctors coming in and tests being run. She is still breastfeeding so of course, that takes time as well.

Thanks for all your comments...I was going to read them to Kerrie but didn't get a chance. Will do so later if time allows!!

They are going ahead with the testing to RULE OUT things...in case you were wondering.

Hang in there little buddy!! They are taking good care of you!!!

Lots of love,

Tracy

Kerrie - Hang in there girl! He needs his mamma to stay strong for him. I'm praying for your little guy, you and for the Docs.

Tracy - what a wonderful friend you are. Make sure you are taking care of yourself too so you can continue to be there for Kerrie and her family.

Thanks for the update Tracy. My offer still holds, by the way. No expiration date.

If Jack gets Dr. James Wallace as a pulmonologist, he's in good hands. He is Alex's pulmonologist. I like Dr. Wallace because he doesn't treat his patients (or his parents) like they're an inconvenience. Tell Kerrie I'm keeping her family in my thoughts and prayers.

Hope they get him to feeling better soon - poor thing has been through enough. Let me know if you need anything. Take care of yourself too Kerrie.

Still praying and believing for the best. Tracy you are a great friend...and I know you'd say you are just doing what anyone would do, but believe me not everyone would.

Thanks for the update!

How's Claire doing? The last we knew, she was coughing and gagging, too. Is she doing better?
